Where Elephants Walk is a collection
of stories about modern big game
hunting in Africa. Wyoming resident
and lifelong hunter Albert Townsend
takes the reader with him as he relives
some of his most memorable African
adventures. In the pages of this book,
Albert bags dangerous game animals
including leopards, cape buffalo, and
crocodiles, as well as an array of plains
game. Most of the stories, however,
recount his success (and some failures)
hunting the great African elephant.
Along the way, he interacts with professional
hunters, encounters different
cultures, and learns to appreciate the
incredible toughness of African game.
Fellow hunters will appreciate Albert’s
insight into the strategy and discipline
required to successfully hunt some
of the most dangerous animals on the
planet. Non-hunters will enjoy the dramatic
adventures of Albert, his family,
and his friends as they gain an altogether
new form of respect for nature.
Albert Townsend is a semi-retired
building contractor specializing in
projects with a strong masonry bias.
He and his wife Sheri live in Buffalo,
Wyoming. A lifelong hunter, he spent
the winter months between 1975
and 1992 trapping and in predator
management. On occasions he has
guided hunters himself. His successful
hunting and fishing travels have taken
him around the world, including the
British Isles, Canada, Africa, and Belize
in addition to Alaska and other states
as well as his home state of Wyoming.
